This website was created as part of my project-based dissertation. Like many European countries, inclusiveness is a fundamental school principle in Malta. Every school in Malta should provide equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their health condition, status, finances, religious views, etc. However, there are situations where students cannot physically attend school, such as when they are in the hospital. In such cases, our website allows them to continue their education and follow the school curriculum remotely.
The website offers a variety of resources, including videos, assignments, practical exercises, useful links, and a forum for peer communication. Students can access these materials and complete tasks at their own pace and convenience. Teachers can engage in two-way communication to ensure that students receive support and guidance, providing feedback on assignments and answering any questions students may have.
Some tools are incorporated within the website to assist students with different needs. For instance, it included a font from the “Sant” group, designed to be more accessible for children with dyslexia. A language conversion system has also been implemented to support students who may find studying in English challenging. Moreover, a potent tool – Accessibility Enabler, is implemented on the website. It offers a variety of features that enable visitors to personalize the website based on their specific needs. It provides options for adjusting text size, changing colour contrasts, enabling keyboard navigation, and implementing screen reader compatibility and more.
Initially, the website focuses on the physics topic of “Motion, Forces, and Energy,” which is covered partially in years 9 and 10 in Maltese schools. However, the vision is for teachers to collaborate as a team, sharing and uploading their materials, supporting each other, and catering to the needs of individual students. Eventually, the website could encompass materials for all sections of the physics curriculum and potentially expand to other subjects within the school curriculum.
Therefore, the website aims to provide an inclusive and flexible learning platform for students who cannot attend school physically. It is a valuable resource for teachers, allowing them to collaborate and share materials while supporting students in their educational journey.
